The Process

On the day we have you scheduled, we usually arrive at about 8:15 a.m. to get started. If you are unable to meet us in the morning to let us into your home, please coordinate with the office to provide a key or lockbox so we can get started right away. We offer furniture removal and storage, and can have a storage container dropped at your house if you don’t have the room in your home for the furniture that needs to be moved. We then get started and do all the sanding and prep work before we start the coating process. The finish usually dries over night, depending on the weather and the type of finish you choose. In the winter we will need the heat at about 70 degrees to dry, and in the summer if you have AC, that will help the drying as well. The following day we will arrive to put on the second coat. The next day we will put on the third coat, and so on, if you opt for extra coats. We have multiple jobs going on at the same time, and are often coating 3 to 4 different floors in a day, so it is hard to predict our arrival time for coating days. It is best if we have a key or lock box so that we can come and go without interrupting your day. Most of our projects take 3 to 8 days to complete, depending on the size and scope of the work. It is not typically necessary to move out of your home during installation and finishing unless the project includes the majority of your living area. Please note that the areas being done will be off limits to foot traffic. If the layout allows you to remain in the home, expect noise and fumes from the polyurethane. We offer several different types of woods, stains and finishes to create the desired “look” you want for your wood floors. We also offer a dustless sanding system that can be used for the sanding and finishing process. If you are doing a demo of old floors and installing new floors, we usually do recommend it. The system does add to the cost of the job, but for many homes that are difficult to clean, or where the dust would be inconvenient for you, it is well worth it. We can also recommend professional construction cleaners that can come in after we are finished with the wood floors. We will go over these options in more detail when we come to quote your new flooring installation. Once the job has been completed, please wait 24 hours before walking on the new wood floors. Allow 48 hours for furniture and pets, and 1 -2 weeks before placing carpets or area rugs on the floors. Also avoid using water on the wood floor for one week. After the finish has dried, put felt pads on the bottom of any furniture to minimize scratches and dents. Place rugs at all entrances, avoiding those with rubber backs, as these can discolor your floor. Avoid walking on your wood floors with cleats or high heels.
